The South End Community Center (SECC) is a non-profit organization that has been providing essential community support in Springfield's South End since 1939. The SECC is committed to helping individuals develop the qualities necessary to become responsible and caring citizens. To achieve this goal, the SECC offers a range of quality Springfield youth programs and family support initiatives designed to assist in the educational, emotional, physical, and social development of residents in Springfield. The South End community is the second most impoverished area (49.7%) in Springfield, following only the North End. Additionally, one out of every three children (33% under 18 years old) in Springfield lives in poverty, a statistic that exceeds those of cities like Boston, Dallas, and Los Angeles. As a result, both existing and new programs, along with collaborations, are crucial for sustaining the only community center serving the South End of Springfield.
The SECC serves as a safe haven for our youth. In the challenging urban environment of the South End of Springfield, volunteers, the Board of Directors, staff, community members, and funders work together to ensure the SECC continues to be a positive place for play, learning, socializing, networking, and hosting activities for the community and the Greater Springfield area.
There is always a wealth of young basketball talent in the Springfield area. This new basketball program will provide a platform for hard-working, dedicated, and talented Springfield youth to gain exposure to a variety of life experiences that were previously out of their reach.
